Synthesis, characterization, and thermal analysis of liquid crystalline copper(II) porphyrins

Abstract:

Porphyrins are a group of aromatic organic compounds formed from four pyrrole groups. These compounds have diverse uses due to their rich color properties. A series of copper(II)-metallated porphyrin complexes were synthesized from free base porphyrins. These compounds were spectroscopically and thermally analyzed to confirm purity and study the phase behavior of compounds between solid, liquid crystalline, and liquid phases.
