Redesigning the Cloud Chamber

Abstract:

A cloud chamber is a small particle detector, that uses a CPU air cooler, peltiers, and thermal paste to create an extremely cold chamber in which you can see the tracks left by particles. A radioactive source is put into the chamber containing alcohol vapor. Because the chamber is so cold, the alcohol vapor becomes supersaturated and condenses around the ionized air left by the particles. My research was to redesign this cloud chamber with the goal to increase the visibility of these tracks.
