Implementing Green Infrastructure Supports

Abstract:

This project explores how different green infrastructures can be beneficial towards flood resilience. Albany county faces both fluvial (river flooding) and pluvial flooding (surface flooding. Grey infrastructure typically only addresses one of these problems, mainly pluvial flooding and having a certain lifespan. These lifespans have been degrading faster due to the frequent flooding issue. Green infrastructure on the other hand, can address both along with having a longer life span that won’t be affected by frequent flooding. There are many green infrastructure systems out there such as bioswales, rain gardens, green roofs, etc. that can be created to combat this issue. From my research, I have designed a website stating the benefits of multiple specific green infrastructures, hybrid infrastructure, and gave examples on other cities around the US that have already taken the initiative on using green infrastructure.
