Beyond the Standard Model: Top Quarks and BNVs

Abstract:

While the Standard Model has been able to explain a lot of the phenomena happening at the quantum level, there are still many questions yet to be answered. One of these questions: Why is there such an matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe? To explore and understand this, physicists have tried going beyond the Standard Model (BSM) in order to explain this asymmetry. Baryon number violations (BNV) has been touted as a way to explain this matter-antimatter asymmetry. Therefore, in this project, we first wrote code and tweaked in order to reconstruct the Top Quark using the MadGraph-Pythia8-Delphes pipeline. Then, we wrote code that would sift through the CMS data in order to find the BNVs .
